MIUCCIA'S DIVINE INTERVENTION

Whether mainstream or critical, cinema has rarely been treated as sacred until Miuccia Prada stepped into the frame, bringing her unmatched talent for elevating the overlooked.

Through Women’s Tales, Miu Miu offered thirty-five women directors something more radical than visibility: autonomy. Fashion was merely the pretext, the spark from which thirty-five films emerged, each a self-contained world. These works were never meant to cohere into a single anthology.

A coherence emerged retrospectively. Just as she once transformed humble black nylon into luxury, Prada treated film as fabric - cutting, layering, and stitching stories into one ritual space. Cinema became material: tactile, stratified, charged with meaning. Light and sound staged an environment as invested in immersion as in spectacle. And live performance acted as the binding agent.

Was it entirely original? Perhaps not. But originality here was never about essence, it was about scope. The exhibition unfolded in a monumental set, calibrated to perfection, where even the lighting seemed complicit in granting every phone its ideal image. And yet, for those who came to experience rather than see and be seen, it offered something rarer than novelty: joy.

Stepping out into a blinding sun hours later, one question lingered. Was this enough for Miuccia, or merely a prelude?

The answer arrived swiftly. Just three days later, Fondazione Pradaannounced the creation of its Film Fund: a €1.5 million annual initiative dedicated to independent cinema. Launching in Fall 2025 with an open call, the fund is designed to support bold visions across borders and genres.
